Dear parents and/or guardians,

This year we are “Steppin’ In The Right Direction” at Point Elementary School.  Students will set goals, track their progress and discuss strategies to reach their goals throughout the school year.  As we begin our journey, please look for and complete Home/School Connection Activity titled, “Students’ Job, Teachers’ Job, Parents’ Job, Our Job” with your child and return it to your child’s teacher no later than Friday, September 7th.

Students’ Job, Teachers’ Job, Parents’ Job, Our Job is a great way to reinforce how we all work together as a school community.  Please take the time to complete this activity at home with your child.

Teachers’ Job - Students should begin by describing in their own words or 2-3 sentences that describe their teacher’s job.  In other words, what is their teacher’s job? (Ex: Teach us so that we understand, Have materials and resources available, Guide us when we need help, Give us feedback, Show us what we need to do in order to grow and learn, etc)

Students’ Job - Students should then describe in their own words or 2-3 sentences their job as a student.  In other words, what is their job as a student? (Ex: Come to school prepared, Pay attention, Actively participate, Have materials ready, Stay on task, Complete Homework, Read every night, etc)

Parents’ Job - Students will describe their parent’s job at home. In other words, have your child describe to you what they need you to do to support them academically, socially and behaviorally at school. (Ex:  Set homework schedule, Reading time, Sign my Friday folder, Check my math problems, etc.)

Our Job - Leave this section blank until the students return the form to school.  Students will then think of common goals that all stakeholders (teacher, student and parent) share.  Students write down their answers and the class starts to conclude that all stakeholders work together for the growth and success of the student.  (Ex: Do our personal best, Listen to each other, Respect each other, Help each other, Be honest, Know our jobs and be responsible for doing them, etc.)  This is a unique learning experience and enhances a positive learning environment for the students during the year.

Please return the completed portion (only the teachers’ job, students’ job, parents’ job) to your child’s teacher no later than Friday, September 7th.
